# Event management

Your Gather App allows you to run your events smoothly from creation to attendance tracking.

### Where do events show up?

Any events that you are signed up for, are upcoming, or you've been invited to will show up in your **Mailbox** on the **Home** tab.

All events can be found on the Connect tab, with filters for **Upcoming**, **Invited**, **Going**, **New**, **Past**, **Attended**, and **Hosted**.

### Adding new events

Admins can add new events from the app. To do this, select the Plus icon in the lower right-hand corner of your screen and select Event.

The form will allow you to add a variety of event details. Descriptions can be found below.

Once you hit "Create," the event will be added to your community.

### Inviting guests

You can invite guests to your event in a number of ways. Once your event is created, navigate to it.

On the page, there is a share button in the upper right hand corner. When you hit it, the event info will be copied, and you can share this link via in-app chat, text, or any other mechanism.

Alternatively, you can scroll down to Bring friends and hit the Invite button. When you do, you will be shown a list of all users. You can filter this list by tag or use the text search feature to select those you'd like to invite. Once the invitees are selected, the next page will allow you to customize a message. Hit send, and your event invitation will be sent to all on-file contact methods.

### Host hub

The host hub is available below the other event information. From here you have full control over the event: If guests can request to attend versus sign-up, whether sign up is still open, if guests can invite others, or if the event is private.

You'll see a list of invitees below this. Manage guest list allows you to determine attendance status. If the event is open sign-up, you can remove guests here. If it is by request, you can add them to the waitlist, leave their request pending, accept, or decline them.

After the event is over, you can toggle the **Mark attendance** button to note whether they were present or not.

### Editing

If you made a mistake while creating your event, or forgot to add something crucial, don't sweat it! When you scroll down the event page, you'll see an Edit event button on the Host Hub, which will pull up the original form.

### Cancellation and deletion

If your event cannot go on, scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit Cancel event. We will double-check that this is an action you'd like to take! We'll let your guest list know the event is off.

If no one had signed up for the event, or it was made completely by mistake, select delete event.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.joingather.org/gather-app-walkthrough/event-management.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
